With the largest population of public school students in the country, and an even larger workforce, California has a lot riding on educating its future workers.
Pressed by economic and technological shifts and facing enrollment declines, how will the state think outside the box—employing non-traditional learning approaches to remain competitive? Will this mean reimagining the state's mission to provide quality public higher education, or devising new ways to leverage "cradle-to-career" data to drive student and worker success? Will AI be student, teacher, or aide in our classrooms? And how will regions like the Inland Empire forge strong career pathways for future workers who want to join booming healthcare, manufacturing, and green technology sectors?

GIA Insights 4 Impact Webinar: Preparing Students for an AI Workforce: Two Perspectives
What does it actually look like to build AI literacy development into academic affairs while the landscape continues to evolve? This session brings together two complementary perspectives.
First, participants will hear practical strategies from UMass Lowell, including faculty grants, professional development, and senate-driven curricular reform. The presenters will discuss what they tackled first, how they approached implementation, and what's working, as well as what challenges remain.
The session will then shift to a research perspective on the AI literacies faculty and students will both develop through this work, drawing on the UNESCO IITE-commissioned Dimensions of AI Literacies taxonomy to demonstrate how everyday institutional efforts can become a powerful engine for building AI literacies across campus.
