| Date Funded: July 2024 | Amount Awarded: $1,000,000 | Project Completion: June 2027 |
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Led by the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE), the Riverside County HS +1+2+1 Education Pathway project connects high school, community college, and university learning to help students explore and prepare for careers in education. The project brings together regional school districts, Mt. San Jacinto College, and California State University San Marcos to strengthen pathways into the teaching profession.
Through education-focused coursework, early college credit opportunities, classroom experiences, and work-based learning, students gain insight into education careers while developing practical skills. Campus visits, future educator events, and opportunities to engage with college students and faculty help students understand their options and envision themselves as educators.
RCOE coordinates collaboration among partners to align coursework, strengthen dual enrollment opportunities, and clarify transitions between educational institutions. Professional development and shared planning support instructors as they build and expand local education pathways.
By connecting career exploration with college preparation and practical experience, the project creates more accessible routes into education careers and supports the development of Riverside County’s future educator workforce.
Recovery with Equity Strategies: Cultivate inclusive, engaging and equity-oriented learning environments; Retain students through inclusive support; Provide high-tech, high touch advising; Support college preparation and early credit
“When students have the opportunity to step into a classroom as future educators, teaching becomes more than a career idea, it becomes a possibility they can see for themselves. This partnership helps them take the next steps toward that future.”
PROJECT IMPACT
The Riverside County HS +1+2+1 Education Pathway is creating a stronger regional pipeline for students to explore teaching and education careers while gaining meaningful academic and professional experience before graduating high school. San Jacinto College and CSU San Marcos, students can explore education careers, earn early college credit, participate in work-based learning, and better understand how their high school coursework connects to college degrees and future careers. The project is helping participating institutions build a more coordinated pathway designed to prepare and inspire the region’s next generation of educators.
Expanded early college opportunities, including concurrent enrollment and ongoing development of new dual enrollment and articulation agreements.
Finalized the CSU San Marcos–MSJC program map and shared it with local high schools to strengthen transfer and teacher preparation pathways.
Expanded hands-on career exposure through paid internships, classroom volunteering, Future Educators campus experiences, and education-focused field trips.
